External Quality Assurance

WWARN’s External Quality Assurance team collaborates with 64 laboratories from 30 different countries. We work with laboratories to improve the analysis of antimalarial drug regimens and enhance the quality of research data output. The Pharmacology Proficiency Testing (PT) programme has now been granted official Proficiency Testing Provider accreditation according to ISO 17043:2010.

The External Quality Assurance team
  1. Provide laboratories with certified drug reference standards
  2. Offer proficiency testing service to help participating laboratories improve the quality of their results
  3. Provide freely available procedures on specimen collection, processing and testing for malaria studies.
Improving data output
  • Reference Materials Programme - provides laboratories with validated antimalarial drug reference materials to minimise bias arising from poor quality standards and improve comparability of results between laboratory data

  • Proficiency Testing – assists Pharmacology and Molecular laboratories to assess their capacity to carry out drug analysis, resolve any potential problem areas and to improve their results. In doing so, the laboratories are continually improving the quality of antimalarial  data published and shared
