External Quality Assurance

WWARN’s External Quality Assurance team collaborates with 60 laboratories from 27 different countries. We work with laboratories to improve the analysis of antimalarial drug regimens and enhance the quality of research data output.

The External Quality Assurance Team:

  1. Provide laboratories with certified drug reference standards
  2. Offer proficiency testing service to help participating laboratories improve the quality of their results
  3. Provide freely available procedures such as step by steps guides on DNA extraction.

Improving data output:

  • Reference Materials Programme - provides laboratories with validated antimalarial drug reference materials to minimise bias arising from poor quality standards and improve comparability of results between laboratory data.
  • Proficiency Testing – assists Pharmacology, In vitro and Molecular laboratories to assess their capacity to carry out drug analysis, resolve any potential problem areas and to improve their results. In doing so, the laboratories are continually improving the quality of antimalarial  data published and shared.
