London seminar commemorating World Malaria Day 2015 explores how we can best ‘Invest in the future: defeat malaria’

World Malaria Day is an international day where advocates and citizens around the world raise awareness of malaria as a disease.

To commemorate World Malaria Day 2015, WWARN, LSTHM Malaria Centre, ACT Consortium and Malaria No More UK have gotten together to organise a seminar in London on April 23. The title of the event is ‘Invest in the future: defeat malaria’.

Five speakers will discuss different subjects and key approaches that will help support strategies to reduce the number of illnesses and deaths associated with malaria, and help eradicate the disease:

  • David Schellenberg, Director of the ACT Consortium and Professor of Malaria & International Health at LSHTM, will discuss ‘Malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs) in action: targeting treatment to those who need it’
  • Christian Nsanzabana, Scientific Coordinator at WWARN, will discuss ‘Antimalarial medicines: how effective are they for vulnerable groups?
  • Brian Greenwood, Professor of Clinical Tropical Medicine at LSHTM and Investigator in phase 3 trial of malaria vaccine RTS,S/AS01, will discuss ‘Making best use of imperfect malaria vaccines
  • Matthew Chico, Lecturer at LSHTM, will discuss ‘Global Call to Action to increase national coverage of intermittent preventive treatment of malaria in pregnancy
  • James Whiting, Executive Director of Malaria No More UK, will discuss ‘Global Resource Mobilisation For Malaria: The Next Chapter
