Dr Makoto Saito

PhD student

Dr Makoto Saito achieved his DPhil with WWARN at the University of Oxford in 2019. Makoto’s PhD project included exploring the efficacy and long term safety of antimalarial drugs in pregnant women, under the supervision of Prof Philippe Guérin (WWARN director) and Prof Rose McGready (SMRU, University of Oxford, Thailand). Makoto is a medical doctor, and prior to joining WWARN, he worked as an infectious disease physician at the University of Tokyo Hospital. He also holds an MSc in Tropical Medicine and International Health and an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. Since completing his DPhil he has returned to his work as a clinician in Japan.
