WWARN - Worldwide Antimalarial Resistance Network

The Parasitology Laboratory of Institut Pasteur de la Guyane is a research unit devoted to malaria. As malaria national reference center for 25 years, a major line of its activities is focused on Plasmodium resistance through the in vitro monitoring of Plasmodium falciparum resistance to antimalarial drugs and the implementation of research programs with the ultimate purpose of gaining insights on the molecular mechanisms of resistance. Those programs are essentially based on the study of red blood stages of P. falciparum recently adapted to in vitro multiplication. Owing to the malaria epidemiology in French Guiana and the involvement of the laboratory in public health, since 2008, we’ve developed research programs on P. vivax. This unit is currently composed of two senior scientists and two laboratory technicians. We also welcome several students each from master degree to postdoctoral position.
