Southern Africa Regional Hub

The WWARN Southern Africa Regional Hub facilitates networking activities in the region, with particular emphasis on supporting regional efforts to eliminate malaria. To make this possible, WWARN together with its regional partners are supporting malaria surveillance, research, capacity building and advocacy efforts.

WWARN activities in the Southern Africa region

  • Build, pilot test and support antimalarial drug efficacy surveillance such as WWARN Smart Surveillance, particularly in regional inititiatives (such as Malaria Elimination 8 (E8) and MOZASWA) and countries (including South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Swaziland, Zanzibar and Madagascar).

  • Support capacity building activities with a focus on enhancing data management, including leading the development of the first CDISC Malaria Therapeutic Area User Guide for clinical trials on the treatment of uncomplicated malaria, and the first globally approved Malaria Case Record Form (January 2017), along with other training materials being developed to help implement the malaria standards.
