Dr Newton is interested in tropical public health and infectious diseases, especially their epidemiology and how they can be appropriately diagnosed and optimally treated.  As good quality medicines are an essential part of public health he works with a network of scientists and criminal analysts to investigate the quality of anti-infectives, evaluate methods of detection and advocate for more to be done to ensure that the quality of essential medicines is improved.
