Professor Piero Olliaro

Prof Piero Olliaro is an MD with a post-graduation in infectious diseases and a PhD from the University of Pavia, Italy, MA from the University of Oxford, UK, and HDR (Habilitation à Diriger les Recherches) from the University of Grenoble, France. He is Membre Etranger de l’Académie de Médecine, France. He is Head of Intervention and Implementation Research at TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases. Prof Olliaro’s research interests include infectious and neglected diseases such as leishmaniasis, schistosomiasis, soil-transmitted nematodes, dengue, tuberculosis and malaria. His interest and expertise in anti-infective drugs covers basic research on modes of action and mechanisms of resistance, mechanisms of toxicity, pharmacology and pharmacokinetics, clinical trials of efficacy and safety, and implementation/operational research in the field. In addition, he is active in the field of evidence-based decisions. He is author of over 300 peer-reviewed scientific papers.
